Solos Power Completes Botley ESS Power Station with Korean consortium
Solos Power with its partner, Shinhan AMC and EPC LS Electric, of Korea, has completed the construction of a battery energy storage system (BESS) power station in Botley, United Kingdom, as part of its push to help with the energy transition targets and increase its footprint in the UK before expanding into the European renewable energy market. Solos Power held an official inauguration ceremony at the Botley BESS project site on October 22 2024.
The Completion Ceremony took place on October 22, 2024 with Sinhan AMC, Korean Investors, LS Electric, main subcontractor Suir Engineering and Modus OCU ICP.
The project was completed within 18 months. The facility includes a 50 MW SMA (megawatt) power conversion system (PCS) and a Samsung 114 MWh (megawatt-hour) battery system. The station will provide stable electricity generated in the Botley area to National Grid, the UK’s transmission network operator.
LS Electric was responsible for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and has now successfully completed the power station. Additionally, the company will manage the station’s integrated operations and maintenance (O&M) for the next 20 years, Solos Power have further expanded its UK footprint with Shinhan AMC and LS Electric, securing a 70MW project in Widow Hill, Burnley which is under construction . There are more projects in the pipeline coming from Solos Power.
Peter Dove, Chief Executive Officer of Solos Power, expressed optimism about the BESS future in the UK and wider Europe. “The need for BESS is undoubted and roll out is slow. Those projects that can now be built and connected will have an advantage. The successful completion of this project is another essential ingredient in rolling out the Renewables Transition; enough power for around 80,000 homes for 2 hours at peak demand; and saving some 9,000t of CO2 per year.”
Solos Power plans to leverage its expertise and experience to further capitalize on the expanding renewable energy market in the UK and soon across Europe.
